Divya Dutta’s Ludhiana Gullies emerge as the winner of season 2 of T-10 Gully Cricket Season 2
The finals of the T 10 Gully cricket season 2 came to an exciting end with Ludhiana emerging as the deserving winners defeating Jalandhar by 9 wickets in a nail biting finish .The finals were preceded by the super 8 which witnessed some cliff hangers . The teams were divided into two groups of four each with the first group comprising of Jalandhar Gullies owned by Jimmy Shergill , Allahabad , Gorakhpur & Daman while the second group consisted of Divya dutta’s Ludhiana , Sanjay Dutt’s Sirsa , Prachi Desai’s  Surat .Each team to play the other in its group thereby entailing threee matches for each team . Four top teams were to qualify irrespective of the group they represented . All ten overs a side matches to be completed in 90 mins , like most other ball games .

Only non –first class cricketers quintessentially from tier 2 & 3 towns in the age group of 15-24 can participate .
The game is enriched by some very interesting rules like Power over , in which runs scored off the bat are doubled . The power over is required to be nominated by the two captains at the time of toss . This can be any over barring the first and last .Then there is tenner in which consecutive six fetches ten runs and is termed a Tenner .

Hypothetically speaking , six consecutive sixes hit in a power over will fetch 112 runs . Isn’t  that exciting ?
Jalandhar topped the table by winning all its group matches and securing six points while Allahabad , Last years runners up Ludhiana & home team  Sirsa qualified by virtue of scoring four points each with strike rate determining their ranking .The matches were played at Jan Nayak Devi Lal Vidyapeeth , Sirsa , Haryana .All the matches were played under lights and telecast live on DD-Sports . The Group matches were played in Jan/Feb while the super 8 stage culminated on 7th March 2010.

The  semi finals line up saw the top ranked Jalandhar gullies  play  the fourth ranked Sirsa gullies in the first semis and what a match it proved to be with the fortunes swinging between Jimmy Shergill’s Punjab side and Sanjay Dutt’s home team . Jalandhar won the toss and elected to field .There were sterling performance by Sirsa’s skipper and opener Haqeeqat singh who scored a breezy 57 runs off 29 balls with five huge sixes including a tenner ( a consecutive six is a tenner in this form of the game , we will dwell on some more interesting rules at the end of the article ) and was ably supported by his one drop batsman  Vikas Lamba ( 37 runs off 15 balls )  .This helped Sirsa Gullies score 115 runs for 6 wickers in their allotted 10 overs . Jalandhar bowlers Amarjit singh & Gurbux each took two wickets .

During the chase Jalandhar got off to a rollicking start with the diminutive keeper batsman Suraj kumar( 27 runs off 20 balls ) and the tall Ankush Handa ( 38 runs off 14 balls ) giving Sirsa bowlers a stick . During the power over Jalandhar scored 18 runs which proved to be Sirsa nemesis as they could score only 7 in their power over while batting . Soon the wickets of Suraj & Ankush fell in quick succession but Jalandhar side were helmed by Mohinder Kella ( 19 runs off 7 balls) . Jalandhar required 11 runs when the last over began and finally needed one run off the last ball duly hit by Rohit Nagpal   providing a very exciting finish .

The second semis , a low scoring affair between Allhabad and Ludhiana also provided its own share of drama in the middle . Batting first Allahabad compiled a hard working 82 for 5 wickets with contributions from Ashish singh and their skipper Shashank Singh , a very consistent scorer throughout the tournament.Allahabad could manage only 5 runs in their power over . Ludhiana coasted to victory in 9.1 overs  with their star batsman Arjun Puri blasting his way to 48 runs off just 28 balls laced with five 4’s and two towering sixes . Their power over yielded 14 runs  .

The stage was now set for an exciting darby between Jalandhar & Ludhiana . While Jalandhar boasted of big hitters like Mohinder kella , Ankush Handa and the pocket dynamo Suraj Kumar , the Ludhiana team had in its ranks Arjun Puri , Karan Puri and their skipper Chintan Sehgal . The toss was won by Ludhiana , who elected to field .Jalandhar got off to a rocking start with Suraj & Ankush playing their part . Mohinder Kella played a stellar role by scoring 41 runs off 13 balls including the power over which yielded 34 runs conceded by the power over specialist Varun Puri . Varun had not got blasted till that stage , Jalandhar ended with a decent 105 for 5 wickets . The wickets were claimed by Arun Sharma & Shakun Verma .

Ludhiana commenced their chase with Arjun Puri and Chintan Sehgal who both simply tore into the bowling attack contributing 43 runs ( 21 balls) & unbeaten 39 runs ( 23 balls ) respectively . After Arjun Puri got out , the other Puri , Karan completed the finals rites by scoring 15 runs off 11 balls . Ludhiana reached their target in 9 overs winning by 9 wickets and emerging as the deserving winners . Earlier during the group stages Ludhiana was almost out of the tournament but managed to stay alive by pipping Punchkula very narrowly . Their road to the semis was marked by some great finishes. Ludhiana won an exciting match in the last ball by five wickets , tied their match against Suart and then lost to them in the bat out . Their last match against Ballia in the super 8 was a virtual knock out with Ludhiana rising to the occasion and winning this match by 7 wickets.

Ludhiana owner Divya dutta was an excited lot and exclaimed “ My boys lived upto their promise of finishing one up on their runners up status of season 1 “.

The super 8 stage witnessed some very close matches with almost every match going to the wire .Overall the finds of the tournament being  Ankush handa & Mohinder Kella of Jalandhar , Ashsish Singh (Allahabad ) ,  Shashank Singh( Allahabad ) ,Arjun Puri ( Ludhaina) ,Vikas Lamba & Haqeeqat singh of sirsa in the batting department , Genuine all rounders Paresh Bamania (Daman ) , Karan Puri ( Ludhiana ) & Intezar Hussain ( Ballia ), Ravindar Anand ( Allahabad ) & stand out performers Manoj Kumar(Sirsa) ,Ashutosh Tiwari ( Allahabad)  , Varun Verma (Ludhiana) in the bowling department . This format generally favours all rounders who could be Batting Allrounders , Bowling All rounders or genuine All rounders. In the wicket keeping department , the pocket

dynamo Suraj Kumar of Jalandhar  stole the show both with his astute collection and dynamic batting while the Ludhiana keeper Chintan Sehgal came up with superlative performances with the bat including in the finals & not to forget the Amritsar keeper Rahul Matoo whose side crashed out during the group stage but he emerged with the highest aggregate score of 100 runs off 64 balls (Group stages ) .

It must be noted that majority of the players who excelled hailed from villages and far flung areas , like 17 year old Suraj Kumar  , whose father runs a small tea shop in choughatti in Punjab ,  Gurjit Shergill from Jamsher village  , again Punjab  , Paresh Bamania , the tall left hand all rounder from Nani daman , Mitul Shekhar from Gola bazaar in Gorakhpur district , Dinesh Yadav from Aurachari in U.P , Vikas Lamba from sukhaini mear Hissar in Haryana ,Manoj Kumar from Baba Ladana  Village , Kaithal District .

It must also be underlined that players like Manvendra singh who captained  Ka npur in season 1 and his performances during season I catapulted him to the district team also hailed from todakpur village in U.P and so did Nilesh Patel from Besangaon in Gujart who was given a trial by Sachin Tendulkar last year .

T-10 Gully Cricket is constantly endeavoring to create cricketing heroes from the small regional pockets , some of whom could go on to become national icons in the time to come .The selection committee of  T-10 ,comprising of Mahagur and chaired by Charu Sharma would soon be announcing an all star xiv who would be sent across the country and also overseas to participate in tournaments .This would provide them with the much needed exposure and instill confidence in them to perform at higher grades of cricket .

The season 2 of this exciting finals culminated with speeches from Dr, Ajay Singh Chautala and thanksgiving by Anoop Wadhwa , the younger of Wadhwa Brothers who have taken upon themselves the task of promoting this event . The Season 3 may see addition of another 15 teams taking the field to 32 teams with four to eight overseas teams likely to participate .The season 1 had commenced with 8 teams and the current edition boasting of 17 teams , all from tier 2 & 3 towns . Lot of hunger has been seen during the tournament thereby vindicating the belief of the Wadhwa Brothers that in a country of over a billion , more & more aspiring youngsters need to be given an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of large crowds and be seen live on television . The focus is on the development of youth irrespective of the cities or villages they come from and the tourney aims to fulfill the cricketing needs of  aspiring young cricketers from the small towns ,villages & talukas .  This season which was played under lights garnered decent prime time television ratings and it can now be stated with a fair degree of authority that this season went on to accomplish what it had set out for itself and the future of this format looks really bright .

Though Anoop Wadhwa insists that for them this 10 overs game is an attempt to conduct trials in a match situation ,  the fact remains that this double quick format envisages a finish in 90 minutes on par with other ball games . That leaves us with a lingering thought of how a hamburger nation like U.S.A would react to this 10 overs a side , 90 minutes , cricket ka naya toofani andaaz called T-10 Gully Cricket
