Mumbai, November 14, 2008: Instant cricket is the flavour of the day and in an effort to redefine this, Reasonable Advertising has gone a step further today by launching the “T-10 Gully Cricket” tournament with a celebrity match featuring the who’s who of the television industry.
If the match was interesting, what followed was a glittering ceremony at the PA Mhatre Sports Academy attended by one of Indian cricket’s Fab Four- VVS Laxman, cricket expert Charu Sharma, actress Kashmira Shah, among others.
As fireworks lit up the Mumbai sky, the official tournament anthem for the tournament recorded by noted artist Kailash Kher was also released.
Leading Indian batsman VVS Laxman said, “This is the new trend of shorter and faster games and this surely augurs well for Indian cricket as more and more youngsters will get involved in the game. There will surely be more opportunities for people who want to make a mark in the world of cricket.”
Cricket commentator and expert Charu Sharma felt the game was slowly evolving to the next stage from one- day internationals to 20- 20 matches and now to T-10 Gully cricket.
The inaugural match which will kick off in the month of Jan’09 at Ludhiana and will be televised live on national broadcaster DD Sports.
With Rs 2.5 million as prize money, the winner pockets a whopping 10 lakh rupees while the runner- up will be richer by 5 lakh rupees.
The tournament that will be played across eight cities will feature five sponsored teams comprising of 11 players each. Each innings will have a maximum of 10 overs. The top team from each city will vie for the final pay- off in Mumbai.
The play- off will feature two groups of 4 teams each with the top 2 teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The winner of Group A would meet the runners up of Group B in the first semis while the winner of Group B would meet the runners up of Group A in the other semis which would then be followed by the Grand finale.
"Market research has shown that the shortened form of the game is a major hit with sports fans, and we are keen to explore ways in which we can build on that enthusiasm. Over the past year, T20 cricket has taken off on an unprecedented scale and has also attracted a far wider audience. The “T10 Gully Cricket” format will incorporate unique features like power over, bat out, max zone and a tenner among others things to liven up the proceedings," said Anoop Wadhwa, promoter of RAPL.
